Photovoltaics
The photovoltaic panels are the main source of energy for the electrical system within the Sun Shack. Here the sunlight is converted to usable electricity and sent to the battery system to be stored. Utilizing chemically doped silicon, photons from the sun's rays excite electrons, causing them to flow towards metallic conductors, creating an electrical circuit. They are mounted on profiles made of galvanized steel or aluminum, in order to ensure the necessary stability against wind and snow loads. In some cases, it is also possible to erect the modules at ground level, but this normally requires a special foundation to be prepared first.

Windmills
Wind power is one of the more popular ways to harness the earth's energy; it is second only to photovoltaic panels. Energy is produced through translation of the wind's kinetic energy into the rotary motion of the blades, which drive the generator. The generator is usually connected directly to the blades, what is known as a direct drive.

Charge regulators
A charge regulator is a small wall mounted unit receiving the power from solar, wind, or micro-hydro generators, and controlling the flow of power to the battery. To prevent battery damage from overcharging, the charge control automatically cuts back or stops the charge when batteries become full. A charge control may have manual control switches and may have meters or lights to show the status of the charging process.

Inverters
An inverter converts DC to AC, and also changes the voltage. In other words, it is a power adapter. It allows a battery-based system to run conventional appliances through conventional home wiring. There are ways to use DC directly, but for a modern lifestyle, you will need an inverter for the vast majority, if not all of your loads (loads are devices that use energy).
Inverter is used in housing, camping, boating and in any other case when AC current is needed.

Inverters / chargers
Inverters/Chargers are devices that are basically the same as the inverters but having backup battery charging which is essential to most renewable energy systems because there are likely to be occasions when the natural energy supply is insufficient.

Batteries
Electricity is being stored in batteries. Battery charging is regulated through charge regulators or some other charging source, and is used to connect to a grid through inverter.
